Re: 5-26-72 |
Wow, this sounds great Jim. Great call.
Do you happen to know how many of the shows the New Riders opened on this tour? I wasn't aware they were there and never really thought about opening acts in Europe.

Re: 5-26-72 |
I had no idea either, I just felt like hearing some New Riders this AM and saw this famous date. Seems they have been adding some New Riders recently.

Re: 5-26-72 |
I seem to recall reading somewhere that The NRPS were doing their own tour of Europe at the time. The 2 bands happened to intersect and play together a couple of times.
Not sure which shows. Apparently this is one of them.
Good find!

Re: 5-26-72 |
That would seem to fit with what Finster said. ie they were both in Europe at the time on tour so they would both be at a festival. Thanks.

Re: 5-26-72 |
Can you believe that this shit is downloading at just a measley 9 kbs per second on a cable ISP? Sounds like Comcast is back to throttling it's customers, even after the US government told them to knock it off...

Re: 5-26-72 |
Now I'm confused. My download speed is 0.24 Mbs. I'm in one of the slowest internet countries in the world. But when I converted that on google to what you said (Kbs), it came out that I had 245 Kbs to your 9, making your Comcast hundreds of times slower than the world's slowest countries. Basically comatose. Can't be right. What am I missing? (US average is about 10 Mbs.)

Re: 5-26-72 |
We are still fucked around here. AT&T's DSL service went to hell a couple of years ago. Damn thing crashed almost daily. They don't care either; which explains why Consumer Reports magazine names them as our worst cellular phone service too.
So everybody is forced to use the overloaded Comcast service instead. It is easily maxed out at certain times of the day. I wouldn't have changed providers if AT&T actually gave a damn about their product...

It's the host server, not Commucast. High traffic will slow the DL speed to a crawl. I dL'ed it in under 4 minutes.

Re: 5-26-72 |
"New Riders guitarist David Nelson remembers playing during "a squall," but miraculously, by the time the Dead hit the stage early Sunday evening, the dark skies parted in the west and streaks of golden light dappled the clouds. The security personnel had long since abandoned the gates and a stream of locals, including miners and their families, wandered the festival grounds, gazing at the mud-caked hippies and trying to fathom this bizarre American music. Cartoons were projected onto screens on either side of the stage as the Dead played, and during one jam fireworks lit up the sky. As the Dead ended their performance that night, a message in lights flashed above the stage: "YOU’LL NEVER BE STRAIGHT AGAIN!"
